On 19 July, GDIZ shipped 32 tonnes of cashew nuts, the second largest export product in Benin, to Dubai.
“In Benin, we produce around 200,000 tonnes of cashew nuts a year, with a processing capacity of 40,000 tonnes a year. Of these 40,000 tonnes, 20,000 tonnes are actually processed. We will now be able to process at least 100,000 tonnes of cashew nuts per year, and will gradually increase our processing capacity to 200,000 tonnes per year,” said Létondji Beheton, DG SIPI-Benin.
Benin is the 3rd largest cashew nut producer in West Africa, and this first export consolidates the country’s economic development and boosts Benin’s agriculture!
