In recent weeks, Glo-Djigbé Industrial Zone (GDIZ) has hosted several significant visits, further establishing its position as a driving force of industrial transformation in Benin and West Africa. Here’s a recap of these notable visits.
Visit from a Cameroonian delegation
The Cameroonian delegation visited GDIZ with the goal of drawing inspiration from its model of local raw material processing. Cameroon, keen on diversifying and modernising its economy, views GDIZ as a model worth emulating.
The delegation, which comprised representatives from the Cameroonian Government as well as business leaders, expressed their admiration for the Zone’s modern infrastructure and the efficiency of ongoing projects, particularly in the cotton, cashew, and soybean sectors. Their ambition is to replicate this model in Cameroon to strengthen the industrialisation of their own country.
Visit from Beninese military staff
GDIZ also welcomed delegations from the Beninese military, including students from the National Advanced School of the Armed Forces (ENSA) in Porto-Novo and senior officers of the Beninese Armed Forces.
These visits aimed to provide a better understanding of the industrial dynamics currently underway in Benin, driven by GDIZ. The military personnel were impressed by the Zone’s ability to attract foreign investment and generate employment, thus contributing to the economic stability and security of Benin.
Visit from Ivorian entrepreneur and influencer Joël Williams
GDIZ also hosted Ivorian influencer and entrepreneur Joël Williams, who is renowned as the first Bachelor of Francophone Africa.
He was particularly impressed by how GDIZ blends economic development with innovation, contributing to the dynamic and ambitious image of the country. “I am deeply impressed by the work being undertaken, especially in the cotton, cashew, and soybean processing sectors. This opens up excellent prospects for Benin and generates great pride as an African.” – Joël Williams
Each of these visits highlights the critical role that GDIZ plays in the development of Benin and the sub-region. Whether inspiring leaders from other countries or attracting military, cultural, and influencer figures, GDIZ stands out as a premier industrial hub. These visits underscore the versatility of the Zone, which serves as an economic lever, a site for strategic exchanges, and a space for cultural promotion.
Visit from Ivorian music group “Les Garagistes”
The Ivorian zouglou music group “Les Garagistes” also visited GDIZ. Known for their success in the music industry in Côte d’Ivoire and beyond, the group members wanted to get a closer look at this initiative, which is putting Benin in the spotlight both in Africa and globally.
This visit demonstrates that the Zone’s impact extends beyond the economy, reaching into cultural and creative sectors as well. The visitors praised Benin’s efforts to elevate its economy by opting for local processing of its raw materials.
