Cotonou, 28 April 2022 – Every 28 April 2022, the world celebrates World Occupational Safety and Health Day. This year’s theme is “building a positive culture of safety and health, nurtured by participation and social dialogue”.
At the Glo-Djigbé Industrial Zone (GDIZ), we have developed a strong culture of occupational safety and health that is based on the inclusion and participation of all parties in the continuous improvement of occupational safety and health. We work closely with all stakeholders and proactively to define appropriate, effective and sustainable plans for the development of the Glo-Djigbé – Zè Industrial Zone.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, we have put in place a robust system that follows all stages of workplace safety and health (OHS) decision-making while involving workers and businesses involved in construction. We have had vaccination campaigns with awareness sessions. For us, it is crucial to protect the workplace, to protect the safety and health of workers, but also to ensure the health of communities.
We started the construction of the Glo-Djigbé – Zè Industrial Zone in May 2021 in strict compliance with the Environmental Framework Law in the Republic of Benin. We have the necessary equipment and procedures to ensure the safety of people, including staff, subcontractors and investors.
Many local infrastructures have been developed to meet the strictest safety standards:
- warehouses equipped with the best detection and firefighting systems.
- A fire hall that ensures a rapid and effective emergency response to alerts.
- An infirmary has been established to manage medical first aid in the event of an emergency.
At the operational level, we have planned:
- the installation of a video surveillance system inside the warehouses and on the roads. This system is connected to a central security control room.
- protection of the site by private guarding companies.
