Energy supply for industries in GDIZ : SBPE Managing Director reviews Progress of Gas Pipeline Works
The Managing Director of Benin Electricity Production Company (SBPE), Mr. Emeric Tokoudagba, recently led a technical visit to assess the gas pipeline project developed by Benin Gas Transformation and Solutions S.A. (BGTS).
The project includes a 30Km, 12-inch diameter pipeline connecting the Maria-Gléta Power Plant to Glo-Djigbé Industrial Zone (GDIZ), two Gas Terminals, a 25Km distribution network, and a Natural Gas Pressure Regulating and Metering Station (PRMS).
This infrastructure aims to secure 24/7 sustainable energy, reduce costs for industries, promote cleaner energy, and strengthen GDIZ’s competitiveness in line with Benin’s sustainable development goals.
The delegation toured the dispatch terminal near Maria-Gléta, key pipeline sections including river crossings via Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD), the receiving terminal, the District Regulating Station (DRS), and reviewed the gas supply via the PRMS. The team also visited Benin Textile Corporation (BTC) to observe natural gas use in industrial equipment and boilers.
At the conclusion, SBPE Managing Director held discussions with SIPI-BENIN S.A. officials (Mr. Létondji Beheton & Mr. Faki Adje) and the BGTS team, expressing satisfaction with the quality of execution and progress achieved.
Benin becomes Africa’s cotton champion, and local processing takes off
The Regional Program for Integrated Cotton Production in Africa (PR-Pica) has just offically announced it: Benin takes the lead in African cotton production for the 2025-2026 season.
This victory comes alongside a remarkable surge in local processing capacity.
Key Highlights :
– Benin now produces 647,290 tonnes of cotton, overtaking Mali (433,700 tonnes).
– GDIZ already processes 12.7% of this production directly on Beninese soil thanks to GDIZ
This proves that industrialisation and agriculture can combine to create more wealth locally.
