The Red Walk – GDIZ raises awareness on HIV/AIDS

On Friday 22 December 2023, more than 300 people actively participated in this march, which took place within the GDIZ along a 4 km route. Each step was a declaration of the GDIZ’s unity in the fight against HIV/AIDS, demonstrating its commitment to crucial social causes.

The global HIV figures, which according to the latest statistics exceed thirty-eight (38) million cases, underline the urgent need to raise awareness and combat this pandemic. Benin, though relatively spared compared to other regions, has also recorded cases.

This day dedicated to raising awareness and combating HIV/AIDS within GDIZ has strengthened our collective vision of a vibrant, committed, and socially responsible Glo-Djigbé Industrial Zone (GDIZ). GDIZ is actively committed to contributing to the reduction of these figures through regular awareness sessions and screenings.

This event is a dynamic statement of our social responsibility and contribution to significant issues. In recognition of this meaningful day, we express our gratitude to the over 300 participants, as well as to the firefighters and police officers whose active presence enhanced the impact of our awareness initiative. In collaboration with our occupational health physicians, over 500 screenings were conducted. These tests not only represent an act of individual prevention but also a collective declaration of responsibility towards the health of our community.

Message from the President of the Republic of Benin, Mr. Patrice TALON

Message from the President of the Republic, Mr. Patrice TALON, on the State of the Nation: Glo-Djigbé Industrial Zone (GDIZ), an ambition turned into reality

“Glo-Djigbé Industrial Zone (GDIZ), an ambition turned into reality”

In accordance with the provisions of Article 72 of the Constitution of December 11, 1990, as amended by Law No. 2019-40 of November 7, 2019, President of the Republic, Head of State, Head of Government, Mr. Patrice TALON, delivered his message on the state of the Nation to the National Assembly, facing the elected representatives of the people, on Thursday, December 21, 2023. In his message, the Head of State reported on the state of the country in 2023, highlighted progress as well as areas of dissatisfaction, and outlined some perspectives.

At the heart of President TALON’s innovative vision, GDIZ emerges as a major catalyst for the Beninese economy. Indeed, the realization of the project demonstrates a determined commitment to sustainable economic development and the empowerment of the youth of Benin. In record time, GDIZ has become a symbol of positive transformation on the continent.

In his speech, President Patrice TALON explains how the Glo-Djigbé Industrial Zone (GDIZ) acts as an engine for economic growth and job creation for Benin.

“Ladies and gentlemen, members of parliament!

There is an area where our performances also amaze and evoke admiration. It is our industrialization policy, the flagship of which is now the Glo-Djigbé Special Economic Zone. I speak of it with pride because I am convinced that three years ago, when I announced this project during my accountability tour, very few believed in it, including within our own ranks.

Today, here we are! And I dare to say that what we already see in Glo-Djigbé is nothing compared to what lies ahead. With the enthusiasm of major companies to set up there, in a short time, it will no longer be just 10,000 young Beninese working there, but hundreds of thousands of Beninese. This is also the added value generated by a conducive business climate and the transformation of our raw materials.”
