Visit to GDIZ of the Vice-President of Benin Republic
Benin is gearing up to host the 11th Conference of the Great Chancelleries of Sub-Saharan Francophone Africa and France in 2024, a significant event where several prominent sites will be visited by participants. Among these destinations is Glo-Djigbé Industrial Zone (GDIZ).
In anticipation of this event, Her Excellency Mrs. Mariam CHABI TALATA ZIME YERIMA, Vice-President of Benin and Grand Chancellor of the National Order, conducted a prospecting visit to GDIZ on Friday, March 1, 2024.
This visit unfolded in several stages:
Presentation of the GDIZ Project
Together with Mr. Falilou AKADIRI, Vice-Grand Chancellor of the National Order of Benin, and a team from the Grand Chancellery, the Vice-President was given a detailed presentation of GDIZ project as well as the model of the Zone. During this presentation session led by Mr. Létondji BEHETON, Managing Director of the Investment and Promotion of Industry Company (SIPI-BENIN S.A.), and Mr. Laurent GANGBES, Managing Director of the Investment and Export Promotion Agency (APIEx), the Vice-President praised the considerable efforts made by the Zone’s authorities, particularly in the social aspect since the project was lunched.
Visit to industries within the Zone
The Vice-President had the opportunity to discover several operational and under-installation industries within GDIZ. She visited the Textile Training and Production Centers where young Beninese are engaged in producing ‘Made in Benin’ garments. At BTex, an integrated textile unit, the Vice-President admired the ‘’Made in Benin’’ yarns and towels made from Beninese cotton. She also visited Afrikan Ceramics Solutions (ACS), specialising in tile manufacturing, and Benin Cashew S.A., specialising in cashew nut processing. During these site visits, Her Excellency Mrs. Mariam CHABI TALATA ZIME YERIMA encouraged the workers of these industries and emphasised the importance of their contribution to the country’s economic development.
Environmental Commitment
The visit of the Vice-President of the Republic to the GDIZ was marked by a symbolic gesture. The country’s second most important figure planted a tree to commemorate her visit to the Zone. This gesture illustrates the government’s commitment to environmental preservation and biodiversity while symbolising hope and sustainable growth for Glo-Djigbé Industrial Zone.
This visit underscores the strategic importance of GDIZ in the economic development of Benin, as well as the unwavering commitment of the government to support this project, which accelerates the industrialisation of the country.
